Firstly, we will assume that you have the following parts sitting on your garage floor: The engine and transmission is installed as one unit, so firstly we need to bolt all the bits together. Your Engine Factory engine is a high performance unit, so you need to ensure that your bellhousing is correctly aligned with the engine and transmission. This is a straightforward process, which will ensure that undue stresses are not placed on the crankshaft, and that gear shifting is smooth and efficient. Do not install clutch at this stage. An inspection mirror is useful here to enable readings to be taken through the full degrees of rotation. Remove the bellhousing from the engine. Install the spigot bearing in the end of the crankshaft.

Since that time, Chevy has been responsible for designing and developing a wide variety of vehicles and parts for drivers from every walk of life.
What does the gray heater vacuum hose hook up to? If it’s the one in the engine bay you talking about, there is one that connects to the heater tap on joint to the heater hose. How do you hook up the heater hose on a Chevy ? One goes from the heater core to the water pump, the other goes from the heater core to the intake manifold.
It is a spline female input shaft with a mirror-image Atlas II 6-bolt pattern. This is important to note because This conversion utilizes a stock GM adapter that is absurdly similar to the Atlas II pattern. I’m glad that I did, too because I used it as a stencil later on for a spacer that ended up being necessary for the adapter. Now for the ribcage of the whole conversion. I call it the rib cage because the splined coupler, or spud shaft as some refer to it as, is really the heart.
They are very common and not very highly desired. This adapter lived previously in front of both. But as it turns out, this is also the very hole that requires the most modification for the current conversion in question. The Ford adapter looks a lot bigger, I know, but believe me, the bolt patterns are practically the same.

The radiators in — models were a bit small to start with, and the original-design radiators are very antiquated technology now. In addition to taking steps to make sure your Chevelle keeps its cool, there are also opportunities to improve the performance of your car by switching from a belt-driven fan to an electric fan. LS engine choices now range from the common hp 4. As for the transmission, swap kits exist for both stick shift and automatic options. LS engines have come a long way since — The LS3, first introduced as the base engine in the Corvette, punched out the original LS1 displacement from 5. The horse Corvette mill subsequently found its way under the hood of the late, great Pontiac G8 GXP, then got the nod as the standard powerplant for the new Camaro SS. This versatile engine is a personal favorite of Dr.
You have options for EFI or carbureted setups, and the already-formidable stock internal components can be replaced with GMPP upgrades when you order. The bumpstick installed in this engine features a. Compared to the stock cam, the added duration packs an additional 50 horsepower over the standard LS3 crate engine.

The source of the vacuum varies: The hose can be either connected directly to a fitting tapped into the manifold frequently it shares the fitting that the transmission modulator tubing connects to: Or it can be attached to a spare unported nipple on the backside of the carburetor: As far as routing, starting from the reservoir; The hose should run behind the wiper motor then through the black plastic tunnel on the firewall above the master cylinder.
Somewhere after emerging from the tunnel but before heading down to the manifold the branch line to the reservoir should be connected to a tee. One leg of the tee will continue along the firewall and then enter the cab through a rubber grommet over by the evaporator housing. That is the hose that connects to the control head on the dash. That section of hose should have a check valve inserted at some point. The check valve prevents the reserve vacuum stored in the reservoir from being lost when intake manifold vacuum is unavailable.

Page 3 TEST 1: Thermostat Operation OK, this is what you signed up for, the actual thermostat test, but before you start the test on your pick up van or SUV , remember two very important things: You need to start the test with a completely cold engine. This is not only for safety reasons, but for the sake of an accurate test result too. Don’t open the radiator cap for any reason once the engine starts to warm up.
OK, I’ll stop yakking and this is what you need to do:

I haven’t used these, so all I can give is the application notes that are listed on the Hedman website http: Designed for stock mounts in stock location and stock width oil pan, Under chassis exit, Hedders come with street hook-ups, Must notch crossmember on driver’s side, Hedder comes with weld-on collectors, Competition hedder – Allow for extended delivery time. Valve Covers I used tall valve covers without any problems. They clear the power brake booster fine, but are tight.
I am able to remove the drivers side valve cover with no problems. Distributor The good news is there is not really a clearance problem here. You have plenty of room between the distributor and the firewall, even with a HEI! You can even use your HEI out of your smallblock if you want! I use an HEI type distributor, and the only area you will need to be concerned with is the windshield wiper mechanism arm hitting against the plug wire boots.

Marine Closed “Freshwater” Cooling Systems
Report MrBlueOval answered 5 years ago Engine block heaters aren’t really heaters at all. Like Jim said they are basically a dead short that somewhat heats up a “freeze-plug” same as an expansion plug but it’s not big enough or hot enough to heat up the engine to where it’s blowing warm air from the heater right away. It’s made to keep the engine fluids from freezing in supercold weather not you from freezing. I have seen some aftermarket heaters that splice into your heater hose going to the heater core and they pretty much give you instant heat from your heater but the typical engine “block” heaters do not.

Installation of ZZ4 Crate Engine in C3 Corvette After 30 years and 75, miles, my original L engine was still very dependable and running solid. I also wanted to keep my numbers matching engine so that the car can be restored back to original at some point. After many hours of research, I decided to purchase a new ZZ4 crate engine from GM with specs as follows: GM part number – ZZ4 Crate Engine, Generation I long block, includes 4 bolt main caps, nodular cast iron crank with one piece rear seal, Passenger side dipstick and center bolt valve covers.
Preparing the ZZ4 engine for installation in a C3 is not a major deal but there are some things of which you need to be aware and I will discuss these in this documentary. One of the things that you will want to know is ‘what parts from my old engine will fit on the new one? The ZZ4 comes with a long water pump which of course is not correct for a C3.
The timing cover on the ZZ4 is a composite material and one of the bolts retaining it must have the head ground down to clear the back of your original pump. In my case, I did some research on water pumps and I found out that Edelbrock make an aluminum pump for the ZZ4 application in C3 Corvettes. It is the Victor series with part number It also has the correct shaft diameter for your clutch fan and the indentation to clear the problem bolt on the timing cover. The ZZ4 has D-Port cylinder heads and angle spark plugs.
Although the original cast exhaust manifolds will bolt on and will work fine, the manifold openings should be ground on the top sides to match the ports on the heads.

February 10, Reason: The engine coolant lines to the intake manifold heat up the intake manifold to allow for better atomization of fuel on cold days at start up. But that same process acts as an air heater that heats the air going into your engine all the time. Remove the engine coolant lines to the intake manifold and route the engine coolant directly to the water box.

Tuned Port Injection Installation on Corvette When this ’82 was new, its performance was somewhat short of exhilarating — Chevrolet just didn’t build in the go to match the classic looks. In stoplight sprints, the drivers of less respectable vehicles read: Mustangs would wave goodbye as they ran away from the horsepower, cubic inch, automatic transmission-equipped car. This had to stop! Read on if the thought of hotrodding a Collector Edition Corvette brings joy to your heart not tears to your eyes because changes are definitely in store!
The car has been transformed from a stone into an impressive and very driveable street performer. One of my major modifications, described here in detail, was swapping out the intake and fuel injection system, which netted unbelievable torque gains. It could only flow enough fuel and air to achieve a respectable yet disappointing lb-ft of torque and about gross horsepower.
Oh, sure, with the pedal to the metal it got hard to reach the radio controls, but I was looking for the kind of gut-wrenching, tread-frying thrust that warps space and sends you to the delta quadrant! As you may remember, GM switched to TPI in the mid 80’s Corvettes and immediately achieved impressive torque gains in their factory engines. When the new F.

What does the vacuum modulator do? The vacuum modulator is a canister that contains a diaphragm and a calibrated spring. The calibrated spring opposes the diaphragm movement. This provides the means for the transmission to adjust internal pressures based upon torque demand by the engine. Is there a right way or a wrong way to hook up my vacuum modulator? Since the transmission is so dependent upon the modulator to function properly, a good vacuum signal must be transferred from the intake manifold down to the modulator.
The best way to insure this is to utilize hard steel line to carry the vacuum signal with approximately three inches maximum of rubber hose on each end for the connections. This setup will prevent the hose from cracking or burning in areas that are close to the exhaust system and will also reduce the chances of the hose collapsing onto itself. Most modulators require a minimum of 15 inches of Hg Mercury at idle to function properly.
Are there any adjustments that can be made to the modulator?
